Hugo Boss Started Sourcing from Bangladesh!
Bangladeshi leather sector is progressing day by day. In recent years, many major buyers are sourcing leather goods and footwear from Bangladesh. LFMEAB members are the major player of Bangladesh in this sector so far.
In March 8th 2017, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has created a social media buzz after posting photos on Facebook of a pair of Hugo Boss shoes. The minster took the unusual step after noticing that the limited edition AMZ Mercedes Benz range footwear from the world-famous designer bears the tag ‘Made in Bangladesh’.
Md Shahriar Alam posted that, “It is old news that Bangladesh is the second largest producer and exporter of readymade garment products, exports ships, and medicine to the US,” the minister posted on Facebook on Tuesday. But what I saw myself today made me sleepless out of sheer joy”. The state minister said that he had now started dreaming of something big for the shoemakers’ village at Kaluhati in Boral Parh area of Charghat in Rajshahi, his parliamentary constituency. “Do you think it is impossible?” he wrote in his post, before using a connotation from Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 speech: “You cannot keep 160 million people suppressed! Bangladesh has been surprising the world and it will continue to do so”.
Over the last decade, the Bangladesh leather sector has seen a 10-fold increase in exports, according to industry insiders. Bangladesh is now exporting diversified products such as leather bags, travel bags, wallets, belts and some other products.
The government of Bangladesh set a $5 billion goal to achieve in 2015. We hope that LFMEAB members will be a great contributor to achieve the targeted goal.
