Persecution or the hope of earning more have led many Bangladeshi workers set sail for abroad. Besides many of them have migrated locally inside the country. Even after substantial contribution to the national development, their family members somehow still are deprived from access to higher studies. Family members of such workers who migrated abroad are suffering more, compared to the workers who migrated internally. Female members of both of these families are lagging behind more.
Recently Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) jointly conducted a research on local and international migrants and published a report titling “Impact of Migration on Poverty and Local Development in Bangladesh”. In order to conduct this research data was collected from 18 districts and from a total of 5084 families.
