Leathergoods And Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) organized an inauguration ceremony of “Community School & Health Card Distribution Program” on Wednesday, 26th July, 2017 in the Picard Community School premises at Boro Rangamatia (Kathgora), Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka. Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was Chief Guest. President of LFMEAB Mr. Md. Saiful Islam presided over the program while Vice President, Mr. Nasir Khan was present among other at the ceremony.
Chief Guest has said Prime Minister’s declaration leather, footwear and leather products as national ‘Product of the Year 2017’ has created a synergy to move up the industry impacting export growth of leather products and footwear in fiscal year 2016-2017. Minister particularly praised LFMEAB for contributing to yearly growth of leather & leather products which is 6.29% recording US$1.23 billion that has surpassed the sectoral export target of US$1.22 billion. Earlier, minister inaugurated community school for workers of LFMEAB member factories in Ashulia area. He remarked that the community school will enlarge the scope of primary education for working class families. Later on, he distributed health and medical insurance cards to the workers of 2 LFMEAB members-Picard Bangladesh Limited and Leatherex Footwear Industries Limited. Information Minister hoped this will create better social protection, health and wellbeing of workers.
Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, President of LFMEAB said as part of social commitment LFMEAB recently has initiated ‘Beyond Compliance’ initiatives. Under this program, up to July 20, 2017, all workers of eligible member factories of LFMEAB have come under group insurance. Around 22000 workers of LFMEAB member factories accessed to health and medical insurance facilities. President also hoped that LFMEAB’s community school initiative will contribute to the enhancement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing educational facilities for the deprived children in Ashulia area.
