Three LFMEAB members: Apex Footwear Ltd., Maf Shoes Ltd. and Picard Bangladesh Ltd. were awarded with the “Good Practice Award-2019” in Occupational Health & Safety for their outstanding contribution in ensuring occupational safety and health (OSH) at their respective factories.
Good Practice Award-2019 in Occupational Health & Safety was presented by the Ministry of Labour & Employment on April 28th, 2019 at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh, Dhaka. Three LFMEAB members received the honour in the ‘leathergoods’ category for the concerted efforts from both owners and employees for ensuring a healthy and safe working environment.
The program was presided over by the Honourable State Minister of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian. Honourable Minister of Commerce Mr. Tipu Munsi was the chief guest of the ceremony. Among other guests, Country Director of ILO in Bangladesh Mr. Tuomo Poutiainen and the ambassador of The Netherlands in Bangladesh Mr. Harry Verweij were also present.
Honourable State Minister Monnujan Sufian, in her speech, emphasized on the consistency of such recognitions in manufacturing sector. Minister of Commerce Mr. Tipu Munsi highlighted how Occupational Health & safety can change the landscape of manufacturing and export sector for the better. The Managing Director of Picard Bangladesh, Mr. Saiful Islam indicated that occupational health and safety is not a momentary concern, rather a continuous process. He further added that in this age of ever-changing international occupational health & safety parameters, it is important to integrate them in local standards for a sustainable industrial development, which could help Bangladesh become the next “Global Manufacturing Hub”.
For long, LFMEAB has been working to facilitate and implement OSH good practices for its member factories as part of proactive efforts to ensure the welfare of employees and association reiterates its commitment to ensure the workers’ safety as well as health and workplace safety.
